Problems of energy are an interesting recurring theme in the cinematic works of TheWachowski’s, who seem to be fascinated with the consumption of human bodies. TheMatrix-trilogy is perhaps the most interesting in that respect, as it actively deals withissues of human energy, both literal and metaphorical. However, this problematic dialecticof human energy is not easily understood. Moreover, it requires a completely new andradical interpretation of the films altogether. This article will utilise a machinic-orientedontology to explore the energy issues at stake in The Matrix and what these issues mayteach us about our own understanding of the energy problems that we have encounteredat the dawn of the Anthropocene.
