This contribution underlines the importance of news on the Dutch Revolt for the Medici family.The Medici, (grand)dukes of Tuscany, received various newsreports on the deterioratingsituation in the Netherlands on a weekly basis. In recent literature on early moderncommunication, two different types of news writers and news have been discerned.This article shows that these categorizations blur our understanding of early moderninformation networks.
