Samenvatting

This article discusses the mystical anthropology in the 16th-century mystical Dutch treatiseThe Temple of Our Souls. This book was published a s apart of the Catholic Reformation. The allegedly female author of the Temple has remained anonymous. The Templedescribes the human being in his immediate relationship to God. Based on the structureof the liturgy and with a positive portrayal of mankind, the text focuses on the obligatoryand successive states in the path to mystical union with God through Christ. Among themost important anthropological concepts are the tripartition of man in body, soul andspirit, as well as the 'ground' of the soul, through which mystical union is possible.
