The brothers-in-law Selles andTisnacq shared high ranking positions in the Royal Archers Guard at theSpanish Court. Through their descent, titles and court functions, they wereseen as crucial mediators, even if their negotiations did not always result intosuccess. Yet this article shows that their embassies from Spain to theNetherlands, in 1578-1579 and 1592-1593, formed missing links betweenrather well-known bilateral diplomatic peace conferences between Philip IIand his upraising Dutch vassals.
