Samenvatting

The present article focuses on how French-speaking readers perceiverecent Dutch and Flemish literature and examines how French-speakershave access to it. Special attention is paid to French translations ofDutch and Flemish novels, which have been published during the pasttwenty years. This survey shows that the most translated writers areCees Nooteboom, Hella S. Haasse, and Hugo Claus. Some hypothesesare put forward and attempt to explain this choice. The article ends witha brief discussion on the (limited) importance Dutch literature has in theteaching of Dutch as a foreign language in French-speaking Belgium.
