Abstract


Anew report from the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences  nds that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) could implement constructive changes to its manage- ment of free-ranging horses and burros on federal public lands in the western United States. The report, Using Science to Improve the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program: A Way Forward,1 reviews the science underpinning BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Program and identi es tools that already exist that could be used to better manage horses and burros on healthy ecosystems, enhance public engagement and con-  dence, and make the program more  nancially sustainable.
