University of Pennsylvania radiocarbon dates V.
Abstract
Ages in this date list have been calculated with the Libby half life value, 5568 + or - 30 yr. However, the "effective" and, possibly, the true value may differ from this by several hundred years. The measurements of samples of known age indicate that the "effective" half life value is close to 5800 yr, except for specific recent periods. All samples have been pretreated with HCl and some, as noted in the date list, have also been treated with NaOH for the removal of possible humic acid contaminants. All samples were counted at least twice. The B.P. dates are calculated from A.D.1950. The samples were measured in 1959 and 1960. The 75 samples are from Syria, Turkey, Greece, Guatemala, Argentina, Australia, and Pennsylvania.
