TREATMENT OF VENOUS MALFORMATIONS – COMPARISON TO LYMPHATIC MALFORMATIONS
Abstract
Classification of venous and lymphaticmalformations according to the descriptionof the International Society for the Study ofVascular Anomalies is based on clinical andMRI appearance. Although possible limitationsexist, it should be carried out for treatmentdecisions. Treatment modalities include theuse of sclerosing agents directly introduced bypercutaneous puncture (Ethibloc, Thrombovar,Ethanol in venous malformations or Picibanilin macrocystic lymphatic malformations),laser-induced thermal therapy, surgery, or acombination of different techniques. Apromising substance for treatment of venousmalformations is an Ethanol mixture withEthylcellulose at a higher viscosity, which isunder evaluation in a multicenter-study.
