MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING AS A NEW METHOD TO DIAGNOSE PROTEIN LOSING ENTEROPATHY
Abstract
The main cause of protein losingenteropathy (PLE) in children is intestinallymphangiectasia. PLE is commonly diagnosedwith radiotracer scintigraphy. We report theuse of magnetic resonant imaging in diagnosisof a child with primary PLE. MRI clearlyrevealed abnormality in intestine andmesentery and dilated thoracic duct andmesenteric lymphatic as well as prominentsubcutaneous lymphatics in the extremity. We conclude that MRI is a useful tool indiagnose of primary PLE.
