Abstract

Mutation of the transcription factorFOXC2 gene has been identified as the causeof lymphedema-distichiasis syndrome (LD).Subjects with LD usually present with lowerextremity lymphedema and distichiasis – anadditional row of eyelashes. Typically, lymphscintigrams of patients with LD showgood transport of the radiotracer from thefeet to the inguinal lymph nodes accompaniedby reflux of tracer to the skin of the lowerextremities (“dermal backflow”). We haveexamined two patients with LD syndrome andwere able to demonstrate two different distinctlymphscintigraphic patterns: lymphatichyperplasia with reflux and obstructive.
