Abstract


Plastic bronchitis is a rare conditioncharacterized by the formation and expectorationof long, branching bronchial caststhat develop in the tracheobronchial tree andcause airway obstruction. Plastic bronchitishas become increasingly recognized as afeared complication of the Fontan operationwith a mortality of up to 50%. We report an11 year old boy who developed severe plasticbronchitis following Fontan repair and thesuccessful long-term control of cast formationutilizing a low-fat diet and subsequentthoracic duct ligation.
